No.1 The thing inside the box (11.3 out of 10)
Deciding on your absolute favourite household object for the whole week is really hard. I was beginning to lean towards the idea that Otter Keeper was my favourite household object until yesterday, when an amazing birthday related thing happened. A BIG otter present appeared in the living room! Although me and Teddy won’t find out what’s in it until my birthday, we already just know it WILL be our favourite household object.
Otter Keeper said that having the present as my number 1 favourite object wasn’t really the idea of the game, but although Otter Keeper thinks he knows everything about games and competitions – he doesn’t. It’s a bit hard to be mean to him at the moment though because he’s doing important Otter birthday things.
I gave my present a very high score (11.3 – which is the highest score possible for anything ever). Me and Teddy have also been been trying very hard to work out what’s inside. Teddy says it’s an elephant on account of it being so big (but Teddy’s just saying that because it’s the only big thing he knows about). To be fair to him he is very excited at the moment – I’ve had to put him under the sofa pillow to calm down.
Sadly It’s now the end of household object marking week, and this makes me a little upset until I remember that it’s now only 1.5 DAYS UNTIL MY OTTER BIRTHDAY! Apparently there will be a special Otter story on my birthday (on Sunday) so preferably get a little party hat, sit at your computer, and wait for it to arrive. Yay. I can’t wait, and we all get to find out what the number 1 household object actually IS too!!
If you want to leave me a comment (and please do because otters love comments – Keeper reads them to me and it makes me happy) about this story please go here: www.iamotter.co.uk/story
First, huge thanks to Otter Keeper for working so hard to get us an Otter Story every day. It has made my week that much better knowing we get a story every day.
Second, I don’t know how you are going to restrain Teddy from all the excitement leading up to your birthday. I can’t wait to see what the present is!
Oh, that is so not fair. Have you thought that wonderful as the present may be it still won’t be your favorite? I think otter keeper as your favorite household item was best…tho of course he isn’t exactly an item…oh, you know what I mean…
Ooooh I wonder what is in there?! I don’t have a party hat sadly, but I will wear a tiara instead whilst waiting for the ‘Birthday Story’, can’t wait. Thanks for making me smaile all this week ☺
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SWEETIE!! For a raccooon to an otter, a MEGASUPERHUG!!!
yes I too am loving the Otter Story daily. And I cannot WAIT to see what’s in the box for your splendid Otter Birthday!

Hello Otter !
What a huge package ! How did keeper manage to get it through the door ? It’s very exciting although a bit disappointing since the mystery thing is a very very old trick ! You must tell this your keeper who plays with our nerves ! I don’t know how you can stand this since I can’t and I fear having a breakdown tomorrow for the tension will be at its summit. My keeper says female otters can be so…..(I must ask her ????) hysterical : I don’t know exactly what it means but it seems to mean more than overexcited and not a very nice time. She’s is a bit upset because I created a betting office for my otter fellows, as TT refused to bet. I decided they must bet coffee beans and we made a mess in the kitchen : the confusion was due to the fact that some of them ate the beans they bet and must bet again so that there were a lot of beans spread on the floor whilst half the coffee tin was empty and most of us even the male were hyst- (Keeper, please make a copy and paste of this stupid word!). You want to know why we did all this ? Because we couldn’t wait till tomorrow 3 PM ! It was too frustrating we couldn’t get any hint at what was inside the package ! I hate when keepers show their superiority like this : at one hand they are generous and “grand seigneur” on the other you feel like depending on them (that’s true we are but it’s not necessary to let us feel it ).
Me and Oliver agree just in one point: it couldn’t indeed be an animal, either an elephant or a giraff or a kitten. The box wouldn’t stand still. But then ? Did you notice the wrap was matching exactly Teddy’s fur even the honeycoloured drops are like the round patch of his belly’s fur: so maybe it’s a huge teddy ! that’s the only conclusion we made with Oliver.
We are too far from you and if you won’t be able to give us more details, we couldn’t go further. First you need a ladder and a ribbon with inches and feet indications on it. You must hold the one edge as soon as you reached the top of the package and Teddy must hold the bottom edge and you must tell us the hight and then you must do the same again for the width. This would help us finding out what it could be : we could put the measures into the search field of the laptop since laptops are very good at collecting informations about almost everything and he’ll surely have an idea matching the size of the package.
We think this would be more efficient than to use this strange thing only doctors have to hear whether you breethe well : we didn’t know yet that keeper is a doctor or did you get it from a buglar ? I once saw a film where a buglar tried to open a safe like this : I don’t understand why but I’d have liked to test it perhaps to open the fridge or even a coffee tin. If you’ll know what to do with, you must teach me your technique. This would be very helpful for my own birthday next year ! I hope you’ll be happy with your present and there will really be something inside the box and keeper didn’t make a bad joke just to create a suspense or win stupid bets. At least the unwrapping of the present will be a real celebration and we thing there is a reason why we’re supposed to wear party hats. Since we haven’t any, we prepared some very funny little British potato chips bags we can put on our head. It will be a great sensation for you knowing all your fans will be sitting in front of their computer and waiting for the new story at 3 PM. It will be the best event for your bithday and you’ll be sure to feel all our joint energy and we’ll be very happy to have this virtual birthday party together all over the world ! It could be a new kind of flash mob. Keeper says she’ll take a picture of me reading your story at 3 PM This will be great, won’t it ?
We wish you and keeper and Teddy many happy returns and many many lovely fans.
Lots of fellow otterkisses from us : Louloute and the otters
Oh! I forgot a very important question : Please explain me : why did you mark the present 11,3 and not 11,5? Why did you substract 0,2 ? What was unperfect in this perfection ?, tell me !!! It seems so important a detail!
Hello Otter + Teddy! and a huge thanks to Keeper for working so hard to deliver so many new Otter stories lately! This has been one of the happiest times I can remember in a VERY long time! Otter Story is the best way we know to start–and finish–our day! Your game of household object rating has been so interesting and informative and fun! Reading the stories has brought me more happiness than you can imagine! Makes me wonder how ferret would rate our household items!
I am sure you know in your mind why the Thing Inside the Box rates an 11.3–I will not question the wisdom of the Otter Rating System! What I will do is wait for the next Otter Story! and as you know–waiting is the hardest part of all!
Happy Birthday Otter! The car sounds very exciting, the perfect present for otters! I’m glad you are having a great day!
I hope you and Teddy do not get lost while driving! You will have to try and make a sat-nav 🙂 Or maybe convince Otter Keeper that you need one by getting lost loads! (I find posit notes everywhere help so that might be a fun option!)
Hi Otter,
Thanks for the birthday greetings of Nemo from the marine zoo. My birthday was great! I hope you will visit us again. Sun under otters would be great. I could finally fill my belly with a cake from beetles, crickets, fish and my favorite snack pumpkin seeds.
Your stories are great! You need us !!!!!
Greetings Nemo short clawed otters in the marine zoo and his girlfriend Anja
