otter in the supermarket

“Unexpected Otter in the bagging area”

Yesterday was super exciting! I thought it was just going to be a normal evening but then Otter Keeper announced we were going “late night shopping”. After a brief question and answer session with Otter Keeper, me and Teddy worked out that late night shopping was just like normal shopping (which I love) …..but closer to bedtime.

The Supermarket is a really great place, that’s why it’s called the “Super” market. There are lots of wonderful exciting things to buy and some of them are at just the right height for an otter to reach. I had a great time walking round the supermarket but apparently I was causing too much mischief (shelf climbing is so much fun!) so I got strapped into the special otter seat on the big basket with wheels. It was a bit like my booster seat in the car all over again. However I was able to use my vantage point to select special items I may not have seen otherwise, so this was handy really.

In a supermarket, when you want to go home you have to put all the food in bags at a special machine. This was the best bit of all because Otter Keeper let me help (for a while). A lady lives somewhere inside the machine and talks to you, I know this because she talked to me and said I was an “unexpected Item in the bagging area” The lady is a bit silly, I explained to her that I was Otter.. but she just kept saying the same thing, I think this is because we are not quite friends yet and she wasn’t expecting visitors. This won’t be a problem next time because I will ask Otter Keeper to tell her that we are coming in advance. It’s only polite after all.

I very much enjoyed my shopping trip and the best thing is that Otter Keeper got me a special thing called a “customer feedback form?” this is basically a special letter (just for otter’s I think) that you use to write to the supermarket people to tell them what a good time you had in their supermarket and how much you really REALLY love it. i’m filling this in tonight, and I can’t wait! I am also giving Teddy a special lesson in supermarkets – he needs to be brought up to speed on how great they actually are, and I feel it’s also important for him to know where food actually comes from in the real world.
unfortunately he couldn’t come on the trip as he had to stay behind to guard a picture I’ve drawn with my new crayons (it’s a really good one and I thought Kate might try and steal it)

Dear Otter, now that I am in the eastern time zone of the USA, I get your stories much sooner! I liked your story; it’s funny, because I hate going to the grocery store – it’s so cold there and the candy is up high – and try to make Rick go by himself. Oh, and Rick gets all crabby when I try to buy all the interesting magazines about the people I’d like to know better.

But since he’s back in California packing the house with the help of all the otters, I have to go alone (and am buying lots of those dinners in a box. yuck. Oh, and pasta, which is much better). I don’t make meals much when Rick and I are together – he cooks.

It is supposed to sleet here this weekend which I’ve never seen. If I had Teddy, we’d be hidding out together in my corporate housing eating pasta together. And if you wanted to go outside you would have to wear your heaviest sweater even to slide in the snow. (It’s not like I’m in the mountains here. Who knew?) But I’m glad you and Teddy are safe with Otter Keeper so you can share all your adventures. Back to work for me!

(Oh, and thank you for offering to draw me a visa – I think it would have been so much prettier than the one I finally got!)

Dear Otter, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading about your trip to the supermarket. I especially liked seeing how much coffee you managed to stash in your bag while the Otter Keeper wasn’t looking….:)

    This is a WONDERFUL story.

I look forward to seeing the picture you’ve drawn with your new crayons.

I hope you get to enjoy some of that coffee. Just a little at a time, though, ok?

    Hello Otter

A lovely story. I think the lady in the checkout thingummy is a bit short sighted or sometimes forgets her glasses.

I can recommend Booths. I don’t know if you’ve got any near where Otter Keeper lives, but if you’re ever on holiday in the North, see if you can go to one – it’s very good, especially if you like cheese! :o )

    Hello Otter!
What a wonderful story – I so looked forward to hearing about your trip to the supermarket! I MUST see the picture you drew with your new crayons! I love new crayons – it is so much better to make a picture when the crayons are fresh and new and sharp! I am glad you enjoyed the supermarket – even though you had to be strapped in – but being a smart Otter, you figured how to use it to your advantage! I knew you would! I also noticed LOTS of coffee in your basket – only a little at a time, ok? I drink tea instead of coffee- but when my ferret gets into my tea cup – WOW ! He runs around like crazy; gets into everything – sometimes things get broken – he loves tea – I must remember to keep my cup up high unless it is decaf! Any way Otter, it was great to receive a new Otter Story – thank you for sharing the wondrous adventures of your life with us. I always look forward to Otter Story day! Say hi to Teddy for me – perhaps he can go to the supermarket next time? I let my ferret bring a special friend if we have room in my special cart. Take care, and hope to hear from you soon! Your stories always make me smile and laugh.

“I feel it’s also important for him to know where food actually comes from in the real world.” Dear Otter, one day Otter Keeper might want to take you to the Milk Factory, or if you behave yourself, even to the Coffee Factory, then you’ll know even more about that :D

Was Otter Keeper cross when he found all the coffee in his bag? He can’t really blame you, if he parks the trolley next to the coffee then of course you have to give in to tempation and take as much as you possibly can..!

I was going over older Otter stories to see if I had perhaos missed any important updates. I do have a question or two – Teddy wasn’t allowed to go to “Super” market as he had to guard the latest Otter picture drawn with new crayons – Can we see it PLEASE!! Perhaps it was just overlooked as Otter was so busy lately! I would love to see it – I’m sure many others feel same way! AND – what did Keeper think when he saw all the coffee in the bag- Otter surely had a vantage point for selecting favorite items- did Keeper see the coffee, or were you able to pull off a “Coffee Secret Mission” with Teddys’ help?? But PLEASE share the new drawing!!

Hello Otter – and Teddy and Keeper – I know how busy you have been lately – trip to museum, Keeper being ill, spring weather – but I am just sending a special Otter reminder – I would still VERY MUCH like to see the drawing you made with the new box of crayons – Teddy was guarding so he missed the trip to “Super” Market – you were making sure Kate did not see it – PLEASE post the picture for Ferret and I – he had the vet yesterday – and I am sure lots of other funs would also love to see it, too!!
